Meda Gerdara

Located in Dikwella on Sri Lanka’s southern coastline, Meda Gedara is the perfect luxury villa for families. Surrounded by outstanding natural beauty, historic landmarks – including the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Galle Fort – and a vibrant local community, it’s a safe and relaxing tropical haven in the heart of local culture.

The moment you enter the spacious entrance hall with its majestic staircase and traditional tiling, you know you’ve reached somewhere special. Attention to detail and calm sophistication is apparent everywhere, from the height of the lights to the direction of the floorboards. 

The seven-bedroom villa is built over two levels and offers plenty of room and flexible sleeping arrangements. Three rooms have king-sized beds, two rooms have two single beds each, one room has six bunk beds and one room has a queen-sized bed. There are six bedrooms on the first floor and one bedroom in a separate garden bungalow.

The living room and connecting breakfast room open onto a large veranda with a dining table with seating for up to 16 guests. This is where guests can indulge in talented Chef Roshan’s remarkable cooking skills and daily menus demonstrating the finer flavors of Sri Lankan cuisine. 

Step outside and stunning views flow down through the tropical gardens and over the two split level pools to the turquoise ocean beyond. As well as beachside access, there’s a pool with fun 22-meter waterslide, a yoga pavilion, and a media room with a projector screen.

Meda Gedara has a team of eight dedicated and discreet staff. Chef Roshan is also the Villa Manager whose local knowledge is extensive and who will be on hand with a smile to ensure all of your needs are met.

Out & About

• Visit Wewurukannala Viharaya Temple, a 1.5km tuk-tuk ride away from Meda Gedara. The 50m high seated Buddha figure here is the largest in Sri Lanka and a sight to behold
  
• Rise early and head to Handunugoda, a tea estate in Tittagalla, a 45-minute drive away. It’s gorgeous for a morning stroll through the plantations complete with rubber, cinnamon and coconut trees
• Don’t miss a day trip to Udawalawe National Park. The park is one of the best places in Sri Lanka to see wild Asian Elephants and is only a two-hour drive from Meda Gedara
